It is no secret that with the advent of the Internet Online Education has taken on a vibrant and ever more prominent role in the world of education. For those who are isolated by geographic location or because of physical limitations online learning has proved to be a great blessing. Even for those of us who are older it is becoming increasingly difficult to remember what life was like before the internet and the cell phone. More and more people are looking at the internet as a credible tool and legitimate alternative for learning over traditional methods of education. Music Education has also benefited greatly by the exponential development of technology to aid us in the learning process. Believe it or not in spite of the wonders of technology the basics of learning haven’t really changed much over the years. First, you go find a good teacher you can learn from and then you find a good support system that you can draw on for help. The Internet if used properly can be a great tool and resource to help you achieve your musical goals.

Music Education has also benefited greatly by the exponential development of technology to aid in music instruction of all types.
Now, for me to make this admission is not easy since my background has been as a classical musician for over 40 years. Classical musicians have reputations as being rigid and closed to anything new. I can’t say that I totally disagree with that assessment, however there is a big difference between being a classical musician and being a classically trained musician.
It is fair to say that the traditional or classical ways of teaching have been significantly behind in the implementation of new technology. The good news is this has changed greatly for the better in the last few years.

There are certain things that just cannot be controlled 100 % of the time when you are online. Technical glitches and sound problems are probably the number one issues that you may encounter.
For me the biggest challenge to any of my online learning activities is exercising the discipline to stay focused on the task at hand. I will venture a guess that I am not the only one with that problem.
Believe it or not in spite of the wonders of technology the basics for learning to play a musical instrument have not really changed much over the years. Go and find someone who is a good teacher and find a good support network to help you achieve your goals.
